Once upon a time, there was a girl named Rapunzel. Rapunze was head over heels in love with her suitor Finn. The two had been together for quite some time and couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Rapunzel only had to keep it a secret from her mother because she knew that her mum would not approve romantic relationship yet- but apart from that their love almost seemed too good to be true...
Apparently, it was. Corona crashed their cloud 9. When the lockdown started, there was no way for Rapunzel and her lover to meet up in secret anymore.
At first, Rapunzel used her dog as an excuse. She took long, extensive walks, just to meet Finn outside the city. Where they would not be seen by anyone else.
Time seemed to stand still, as shops and schools closed, and people worked from home. Through the weeks, the couple became bolder. “My mum does not suspect anything,”, Rapunzel whispered, “I think it’s safe for us to walk home together.”
As they arrived at Rapunzel’s house, Finn bent over to kiss her goodbye. “I’ll see you tomorrow”, he mumbled. Suddenly, the door opened with a screech.
“What the hell? Who are YOU?”- It was Rapunzel’s mother, looking at the young couple with horror in her eyes.
“Rapunzel, come right in with me!”,she grabbed her daughter’s hand and pulled her inside, without giving her a chance to say goodbye.
Rapunzel did not expect her mum to react in such a way. She can be strict, but to become so furious with her own daughter... But all discussions and conversations led to nothing. Her mother took her phone, saying “You’ve been dishonest and irresponsible. We’re living in a pandemic after all.”
Rapunzel felt more isolated than ever in her life. “Never have I been this alone”, she thinks, to herself. The Netflix shows became boring, the glasses of wine tasteless and even the food her mother cooked did not bring joy anymore.
But then, one early evening, as Rapunzel is sitting by her window, Finn appears on the street. She can’t believe her eyes! Quickly, she opens the window and pops her head out.
“Hi!”, she smiles. “Hey...” he replies with tender eyes.
They talk for hours and hours. When it started to get dark her mom suddenly showed up on the street. “Huh, Rapunzel and... you!” She almost dropped her shopping bags on the ground. “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t-” Finn tries to explain. “No excuses! I’ll talk to my daughter.” Rapunzel's mother stops him harshly.
Of course, this had to have consequences. Rapunzel’s mother is furious with her. “But it wasn’t even a risk to get effected.” “This is not what this is about, Rapunzel! I think you should move in with your father for a while.” “What?” Rapunzel cries. “There’s nothing to discuss about it. I will call him right now.”
And without a chance for Rapunzel to make her point, her mother rushed off, leaving no option for her daughter but to pack her bags.
In a quiet moment, Rapunzel slid the window back open and sent out a paper plan, explaining the situation. “I hope he’ll find it” she mumbled, as she closed the window to the dark blue sky. “Tomorrow morning, I’ll be gone...”
Days go by. No sign of Finn. Rapunzel wandered around her father's apartment, lost and lonely. As a doctor, he still had to go to work daily. This left Rapunzel a lot of time by herself in the big rooms with high ceilings, old furniture and no one to talk to.
Weeks go by, Rapunzel lost hope. Before her father went to work he told her . “That restrictions will be loosened soon.”
She opened the bathroom window, turned on her Spotify and got in the shower. Suddenly, she hears something: “Rapunzel!”. Inhaling sharply, she grabbed a towel and popped her head out of the window. Outside, there was Finn. Rapunzel couldn’t believe her eyes.
“What are you doing here? How did you find me?” she laughed at him. “Believe it or not, I heard your voice”
He answered with a smile. “One second.” Rapunzel replied out of breath. Within one second, she put on clothes and rushed outside onto the street.
“You found me.”, she fell around his neck. “Yes,” Finn held tighter, “I always will.”
Rapunzel and Finn couldn`t believe their luck. Finally, they hold each other again. In that very moment it felt like nothing ever changed.
Slowly, they let go of each other. “It feels so good to see you”, Rapunzel looks up to Finn and smiles. They stare at each other, unable to unlock their eyes. Every stranger who walked by could feel the love between them, it was a magical moment.
But that magical moment broke. Rapunzel's smile turns into concern: “What if my mom finds out about this? I don`t want to be separated from you again...” Finn pulls Rapunzel closer again. He sighs: “I won`t let her separate us again, we need to talk with her.” Rapunzel nods and leans her head again Finn`s chest. He makes her feel safe. They were both sure, nothing would separate them again. Never again.
So they headed off, hand in hand, to talk to Rapunzel`s mom. Hours of discussing passed by and Rapunzel`s mom realized that these two really loved each other. There was nothing she could do to change that: “I`m sorry. I see it now. You two really love each other. And I won`t be standing in your way anymore. I was afraid to let you go, Rapunzel. My little girl being a grown up... it is very hard to accept. Finn seems to be a nice guy. I am happy for you.” Rapunzel looks at Finn and smiles, he smiles back. Finally, they could be together without hiding. Then she looks at her mom: “Thank you mom, this means a lot to me.”
And they lived happily ever after.
